The 2018-19 Indiana women’s basketball program returns to the court in their first road environment test as they face Oakland (1-1) at Rochester, MI Sunday. The game is set for a 1 pm ET tip. Hoosier fans can catch the airing of the game on ESPN+ or on the radio at WHCC 105.1.

How Are Both Teams Faring Heading into the Game?

Indiana – IU enters the game 1-0 on the season after a 68-66 victory over a scrappy Milwaukee program to tip off the season at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Wednesday night.  Neither team equally shot well as the Hoosiers finished 22-59 (37.3%) from the field on 4-15 (26.7%) from three-point range.  Brenna Wise (17 pts) and Ali Patberg (16 pts) led the way.  With Jaelynn Penn struggling, the Hoosiers never got quite enough balanced support on offense outside of Wise and Patberg from the others to keep the Milwaukee program in the rear-view mirror.  Either way, a win is a win whether 20-point difference or two.

Oakland – The Golden Grizzlies are coming into this off a 43-point loss to Central Michigan on Thursday night.  They currently sit a 1-1 on the season after starting the year off with a 94-48 victory over Grace Christian University.  Looking back on the Central Michigan game, Oakland’s downfall was poor shooting (22-68 32.4% FG; 6-22 27.3% 3FG) and turnovers (19).  CMU would pick up 25 points off said turnovers.  Three Central Michigan players would go on to finish with 20+ points.  Oakland was led by senior guard Taylor Jones (8-16 FG 50% FG; 2-4 3FG).

Hoosiers-United Prediction

Hoosiers bring a strong road effort that leads to a 72-45 win.  Look for Brenna Wise and Ali Patberg to bring a carry-over offensive production from their previous game.  The big difference maker being the return to form of Jaelynn Penn.  Four will finish in double-figures.
